Dalmatian dog

The Dalmatian dog comes from area in Croatia, called Dalmatia. It is a big breed of dog, unique for its coat. White fur with black spots. In history, this dog was used as a carriage dog, but today it is a family pet.

The Dalmatian dog is known for its stamina and endurance. According to the American Kennel Club breed standard, it can be 23 inches tall (48-58 cm). The Kennel Club in the UK, claims that it can reach 24 inches (61cm). Males are bigger than females. The puppies are born without spots. They are completely white, but after three weeks, the spots start appearing. After one month, they have all spots. The female usually gives birth to 9-13 pups. Although, there was one case, when a female Dalmatian dog, gave birth to 18 pups. The spots have sizes from 30 to 60mm. Although, they are known as black or brown, there are some other colors, like: blue, brindle, mosaic and orange. Their fur is short and fine. But the hairs are very tiny, so they will weave into clothes or carpets.

Dalmatian dogs are generally healthy breed of dogs, but there are some common health problems among them. The most common are allergies, urinary stones and deafness. The life span of this dog is between 11 and 13 years, according to the The Dalmatian Club of America, or between 10-12 years, according to the some surveys from the UK. The Dalmatian dogs are used as rescue dogs, guardians and athletic partner, but the main use is as a family pet. This dog is mostly known for the movie ‘’101 Dalmatians’’.
